What Would Happen To The Jack the Ripper Cottage Industry if The Case is Ever Solved
The financial fallout might be more than one would expect
W you’ve spent any time on this newsletter, you’ll know about my fascination with Jack the Ripper.
A couple of months ago, I claimed I knew who he was—and I stand by that. William Bury, I’m looking at you.
That said, I strongly agree with this perspective: if you don’t live in the UK, you can’t fully appreciate just how deeply embedded this crazed serial killer is in the culture. Solving the case wouldn’t just close a historical mystery, it would cause financial hardship for a lot of people.
Which begs the question: do people actually want Jack the Ripper to be solved?
